Review:

After two critically acclaimed full length releases on the (now defunct) Force Inc label and Hollands finest Sending Orbs label, the Reykjavik based producer Ađalsteinn Guđmundsson returns with his third full length album. It’s named “Rigning”, which you probably already have guessed by the cover, means rain in Icelandic. The album consists of 10 tracks that are simply named accordingly rigning 1 to 10, which also is the theme that ties the whole album together. For everyone who’s already familiar with Yagya, the best way of describing Rigning is that it has evolved out of the process from previous releases while maintaining a focus on simplicity and beauty. For new listeners, it is almost impossible to describe the music without resorting to clichés. Much has been said about Yagya and much of it is true. In all its simplicity, this is music that will be perceived different from individual to individual and give each one a set of different associations, much like looking at wonderful abstract paintings and letting thoughts just wander. The music is hushed, melancholic and dreamy, driven forward by warm soothing basslines and chilly dub chords. The admixture of hope, warmth and beauty in the melodies are at times so gripping that you risk getting tears in your eyes. With Rigning, Yagya proves for the third time around that he can make timeless electronic music and should no longer be considered a talent, but more of a true master of the genre. Rigning is set for release on Sending Orbs in about a week and will be available as a 10 track CD, a 8 track LP and digital download from e-orbs.com. If you cant get enough of Rigning, we can reveal that Yagya is working on an EP that’s set for release some time next year. We recommend Rigning at the very warmest.

NB. Rigning is record of the month on pitchmedia.com!
